The Scharff Brothers can play anything by anyone on two acoustic guitars and it sounds like they wrote it...and the songs they do write sound just as good!

Artist Information

Biography-

The Scharff Brothers have been around the block. They got lost, asked for directions, got back in the van, got lost again, showed up late for the show, in the snow, up hill both ways-and still somehow seem to have way more fun than any non-famous, non-rich, non-smoking people should be allowed to have. Seeing their show is sort of like hanging out with that cool Professor you had in college, not the creepy one , but the one who wore jeans to class listened to Elvis Costello and Nirvana. You could never tell how old he was (27...45?). So if your Professor had a brother just like him who played guitar and they did gigs...yeah that is pretty much it. That is a Scharff Brothers show. No matter what song they play it sounds as if it were written by the Brothers. Their harmonies and execution are seamless and effortless. Comfortable as is only possible after performing thousands of shows. If you have ever seen one, you know what I am talking about, if you have not...go next time you have the chance!
**********************
Somewhere between the luscious chord play of the Beatles, and the humor of the Barenaked Ladies, you will find The Scharff Brothers, a full fledged alt/pop/rock-n-roll world wrapped in the skin of a couple of brothers with guitars. After having appeared on the nationally syndicated Donny and Marie show in 1999, the Brothers released a 6 song EP including the song "Scary (Christopher Walken)". In August of 2001 that song was included on the"A Low Watt Document" compilation from Atlanta-based Shut Eye Records and has received hefty spins on college radio throughout the US and Canada. MTV and the WB have also licensed a version of "Scary", recorded by their co-writing friend Heidi Stone, in 2003 and 2004. The brothers have played for crowds of over 2500 people and regularly fill clubs from Portland to Boston to New York to Philadelphia. They currently have an artist endorsement deal with Godin Guitars. Known for insightful/quirky songwriting with catchy groove-based arrangements, their live shows have been hailed by many as a "must see", and have gained them a very loyal following along the East Coast. With tight musical interplay and comical, non-sequitur between-song chats, a Scharff Brothers concert is an event, not just another show.

Press Reviews

Volume 1 review
North East Performer
"...(Scharff Brothers) prove that the 'songwriter' still exists among the cesspool of the 'anger rock' that drowns our radiowaves."
~North East Performer

Live Performance Atlanta,GA
Creative Loafing
"There probably needs to be a new name for that genre ... personified by the Barenaked Ladies, the melding of quirky lyrics with acoustic roots and a ready-for-radio upbeat sound. Until such a moniker comes around, it'll suffice to say that the Scharff Brothers fit the unnamed category perfectly. Their addictive hooks and strong sense of sibling harmony keep the format fresh, helping to explain why this specific sound keeps coming back."
~Tray Butler~ Creative Loafing/Atlanta, GA

Volume 1 review
The Times Record Portland ME
"Catchy guitar melodies, quirky lyrics and lush vocal and guitar harmonies spouted continuously…the engaging album pulls the listener from beginning to end, drawing form a variety of pop music including Barenaked Ladies, Goo Goo Dolls and Fastball…this band, playing its mix of pop and rock, could easily fall into the tapestry of music heard today on commercial radio stations across the country."
